First chess class & tournament start Friday, January 6, 2012!

Welcome newcomers. If you have never played chess in the Kitsilano Quads, you might want to give it a try. We group kids according to similar playing experience. If you are a beginner, then you will compete with other beginners for a trophy in your quad (group of 4 players). If you are an experienced player, then you will play with other experienced players. Take advantage of this challenging training opportunity!

We are located in the Lobby Room, Kitsilano community centre, 2690 Larch Street, Vancouver, B.C. (map). Click here to register online.

We welcome kids from Kindergarten to Grade 8 every Friday evening for two exciting programs.

1/FRIDAY INSTRUCTION PROGRAM FOR NOVICES from 4:30pm-6:30pm (to prepare new students to play in junior chess tournaments)

We provide NOVICE players structured chess classes combined with fun games from 4:30pm-6:30pm.   (Parents can do either drop off or stay and participate, or just observe)

2/ FRIDAY EVENING CHESS TOURNAMENT from 7:00-9:30pm                        (for kids interested in competitive rated chess with strict rule of respectful conduct such as not talking during games, etc.)

Please register between 6:30 and 6:55pm in the Lobby Room.

Parents please note: No drop off for K to Grade 3 for the evening tournament.  You must stay to look after your children between games.

Our Friday evening tournament is now in Quads format (usually 4 players in a round robin).

Effective October 7, 2011 a trophy will be presented weekly to the winner of each quad. A tie-break will be determined with a playoff game time permitting. (adults not eligible)

A medal will also be presented to any newcomer since September 2011 who wins or has won their first tournament game in the current school year at our club.

First round starts at 7:00pmLate arrivals can enter a later-comers section.

Tournament results are rated by Northwest Scholastic Rating System (NWSRS) for free.

Cost: Drop-in $2.00 per session or $16 for 9 sessions (Jan. 6 – Mar.  2, 2012).

Trophy fee: $2.00 extra if you are playing for a trophy (optional for each player)
